On the Process

Hello all!

Since I'm currently having a little trouble navigating the archives that are my storage files, I haven't been able to find more stories to post.

Therefore, in the interest of continuing this blog and not leaving my readers hanging, I have decided to elaborate a little bit on my (unusual) creative process.

Generally, when writing a story, I start with a piece of an idea. Not the whole idea, just a piece. Sometimes it'll be a character, other times an event, and still others just a weird concept.

I then spend a day or two thinking on this idea. I don't tend to think about it actively so much as I kind of let it percolate in the back of my mind.

After that, the idea is complete and it's time to (begin to) write. I open up openoffice and start with a title. Occasionally, I'll skip this step if I'm going blank for titles.

After I've written awhile, I'll stop. What happens next depends on my dedication to the story. If I'm really excited about it, I'll continue writing the same day or the next day. If it's cool, but I'm stuck, or if it's only mediocre, I tend to let it sit for awhile. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes not. Often, I'll just be stuck for a month or two at a time. Then I'll keep writing in short bursts. If I'm really dedicated (i've been getting better), I'll pick up the story again and finish it.

After that, it's done. I'm starting to learn how to edit, but I'm not quite there yet. I always run through spellcheck though.
